Yes, indeed! It’s been Christmas time for Jamie Slocum and I for a while now. We’ve been collaborating on a great new Christmas song: “Welcome Christmas!”
“Welcome Christmas” is a new song that feels familiar and that you’ve been singing since your childhood. That’s what Jamie and I were going for – something fresh and new, but it had to still feel how Christmas should feel and still needed to be nostalgic. I think the lyrics really capture the true meaning of Christmas and what it’s like to be home at Christmas – Jesus, church, family, Christmas lights, excited kids, and of course… the toys! At risk of sounding cliché, it’s just a magical time of year. And, this song is a celebration of the magic of Christmas. As the song says, “Feel the joy all around!” That’s how I hope everyone feels when they listen to “Welcome Christmas” – like they are experiencing the joy of welcoming an old friend home.
Christmas has always been a very special time for my family. My parents started some traditions that continue to this day, and hopefully I will continue when I have a family of my own someday. We always go to church services on Christmas Eve, a tradition that started on my Mom’s side of the family. Our church choir, although small by some church standards, was exceptional, and I was a member of the children’s choir growing up. After church, we come home and have our Christmas dinner in the formal dining room with the good china and candles. After dinner, since we have never lived close to family, my big brother and I were allowed to open just one present from our grandmother, which was mailed early and was already under the tree. We would then call Nana, thank her for the gifts, wish her Merry Christmas and talk excitedly about Santa coming and how we had to get to bed! Opening that present before Santa actually came was always my favorite part of our Christmas when I was a child – my brother and I felt like we were getting Christmas a little early! Nana is gone now, but my brother and I still get to open just one present early on Christmas Eve… we still act like little kids when we get to pick one out from under the tree! Before going to bed, we help mom set the table for our special Christmas morning family breakfast. Of course, Will and I were always up early to open gifts (and still get up early) and then we all help make our traditional Christmas breakfast – gourmet coffee, homemade waffles with real maple syrup, sausage, fruit, and fresh orange juice – yum! We are grown up now, but we still hold these traditions and are lucky that so far both my brother and I have been able to be back home each year for Christmas with my parents.
Can’t wait for Christmas this year!

Earlier this year, I was lucky enough to have a song I co-wrote with Jamie Slocum featured in the movie trailer for the upcoming “You May Not Kiss the Bride” the movie stars Catherine McPhee, Kathy Bates and Rob Schneider. The song is called “Take Me,” and it’s the last song in the trailer. Check it out!
